What it is
Most small jobs add to or change an existing circuit: an extra double socket, a new light, an outdoor light, a switch moved to a better place.
Larger jobs, such as a new kitchen or bathroom, may need new circuits.
When you need it
- You are running too many extension leads
- You want lighting that suits the room, or lights outside
- You are refitting a kitchen or bathroom
- You want mains powered smoke, heat or carbon monoxide alarms
What our standard job covers
Your estimate spells out exactly what your job includes, so you can check it before you accept.
- Fitting the sockets, switches, lights or alarms you choose
- Cables run neatly, inside walls where possible, with chases filled and made good
- Testing the circuits we work on
- The right certificate for the work
What can change the price
Your estimate itemises the labour, the materials, the certification and any waste removal, so you can see how the total is made up before you accept it. These are the things that most often affect it:
- How the walls are built: plasterboard, brick or stone
- Access from above or below, through a loft or under floorboards
- How many points you want, and in which rooms
- Outdoor fittings, which need to be weatherproof
- Work close to a bath or shower
Your certificate
Adding to an existing circuit outside a bathroom is not notifiable, and you receive a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate. New circuits, and work in the zones around a bath or shower, are notifiable under Part P: you receive an Electrical Installation Certificate and the work is registered.
Can it be priced online?
Usually, yes. We ask for a photo of the wall or ceiling where the new item will go, the nearest existing socket or switch, and your consumer unit.
No surprises
If anything differs from your description, you get a revised price before any work starts, and if you decide not to go ahead we refund your deposit in full.
Lighting inside and out
New and replacement lights, downlights, wall lights and outdoor lighting, fitted and tested. Outdoor lights use weatherproof fittings and are protected as the regulations require.
Smoke, heat and carbon monoxide alarms
Mains powered smoke, heat and carbon monoxide alarms, which can be interlinked so that when one sounds, they all do. Tell us how many floors and rooms you have and add a photo of each ceiling.
Kitchen and bathroom electrics
Sockets, cooker circuits, lighting, extractor fans and shaver points for a new kitchen or bathroom. Bathrooms have their own rules for what can go where, and work in the zones around a bath or shower is registered under Part P.

Sockets, lighting, alarms, kitchens and bathrooms: questions
Do new sockets need a certificate?
Yes. Adding sockets to an existing circuit is certified with a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate, which you receive when the job is done.
Will there be mess?
Where cables are buried in walls, the chases are filled and made good, but not redecorated.
Can you fit an outdoor socket?
Yes. Outdoor sockets are weatherproof and protected as the regulations require. See our outdoor power page for garden rooms and longer runs.
