Heat pump electrics, electric heating and showers

The electrical side of heat pumps, electric heating and electric showers, wired, tested and certified on the Isle of Wight.

  • No travel charge on the Island
  • 2 year workmanship guarantee
  • Revised price before any work starts

What it is

A heat pump needs its own supply, an isolator beside the outdoor unit and wiring for its controls. Electric heaters and storage heaters need suitable circuits, and an electric shower needs a dedicated circuit sized for its power.

Some of our electricians are MCS certified, so heat pump work can qualify for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

When you need it

  • You are having a heat pump fitted
  • You are replacing storage heaters or adding electric heating
  • You want a new electric shower, or a more powerful one
  • Your home is off the gas grid and you are changing how you heat it

What our standard job covers

Your estimate spells out exactly what your job includes, so you can check it before you accept.

  • A dedicated circuit for the heat pump, heater or shower
  • Isolators and the wiring for controls
  • Testing every new or altered circuit
  • The right certificate for the work, and Part P notification where it is needed

What can change the price

Your estimate itemises the labour, the materials, the certification and any waste removal, so you can see how the total is made up before you accept it. These are the things that most often affect it:

  • The distance and route from your consumer unit
  • Whether your consumer unit has room, or needs upgrading
  • Swapping a shower for a more powerful one, which may need a larger cable
  • Work in a bathroom, which has its own rules
  • Notifying SSEN about a heat pump

Your certificate

New circuits and work in the zones around a bath or shower are notifiable under Part P, so you receive an Electrical Installation Certificate and the work is registered. Smaller alterations to an existing circuit receive a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate.

Can it be priced online?

Usually, yes, for showers and heaters. Heat pump work is priced from your photos and answers and, like every estimate over £1,000 including VAT, is checked by Ashton before release.

No surprises

If anything differs from your description, you get a revised price before any work starts, and if you decide not to go ahead we refund your deposit in full.

Heat pumps, heating and showers: questions

Can I swap my electric shower for a more powerful one?

Often, but a more powerful shower may need a larger cable and a new circuit. Photos of the shower, the consumer unit and the cable route let us tell you in your estimate.

Do you install heat pumps?

Our MCS certified electricians install heat pumps as well as wiring them. Choose heating in the questions and we will tell you what applies to your home.

Can you replace my storage heaters?

Yes. Tell us how many heaters you have and where they are, and add a photo of each.
